The Abortion Pill
Do you offer abortion services?
Freedom Women's Care does not perform or refer for abortion. What we do offer is free, confidential support to help you fully understand your pregnancy and your options before you make any decision. That starts with a free pregnancy test, a dating ultrasound, and one-on-one time with a trained client advocate.
Is abortion legal in Texas?
Abortion is currently illegal in the state of Texas. If you have questions about what that means for your situation, we're here to talk. Call us at 512-407-2900 or chat with a nurse 24/7 to schedule a free, confidential appointment today.
What are the risks of abortion?
Like any medical procedure, abortion carries potential physical risks, including cramping, bleeding, infection, blood clots, and in some cases complications that may affect future fertility. Many women also experience emotional effects afterward — including grief, anxiety, depression, or thoughts of suicide — sometimes well after the procedure. You deserve honest, complete information before making any decision, and we're here to provide that.
What if I'm thinking about taking the abortion pill on my own?
We understand you may feel pressure to act quickly, but your health matters. Before taking any medication, it's essential to know exactly how far along you are and to confirm your pregnancy is not ectopic — an undetected ectopic pregnancy can be life-threatening. We can provide a free dating ultrasound so you have the medical information you need.
How far along can I be to take the abortion pill?
The FDA has only approved the abortion pill up to 10 weeks gestation. Every medical procedure carries risks, and with the abortion pill, those risks increase the further along you are in your pregnancy. That's why knowing your exact gestational age before taking any medication is so important. We provide free dating ultrasounds so you have that critical information — and so you can make a fully informed decision about your health.
What are the side effects of the abortion pill?
The abortion pill typically involves two medications and commonly causes cramping, bleeding, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, dizziness, chills, and fatigue. More serious complications can occur. Before taking any medication, you should understand how it works, what symptoms are normal, and when to seek medical care. We're happy to walk through this with you in a free, confidential appointment.
What if I've already taken the first abortion pill and I'm having second thoughts?
If you've already taken the first pill (mifepristone) and are having doubts, Abortion Pill Reversal may still be possible — but time is critical. The treatment works best when started within 24–72 hours. Call us immediately at 512-407-2900 or chat with a nurse 24/7. You still have options, and you are not alone.
Why do I need an ultrasound before making a decision?
An ultrasound gives you essential information that affects every option you're considering. It confirms whether the pregnancy is viable, how far along you are, and whether the pregnancy is safely located in the uterus. An undetected ectopic pregnancy is a serious medical emergency. We provide this ultrasound completely free — because you deserve the full picture before you decide anything.
Pregnancy Testing & Ultrasound
What is a dating ultrasound?
A dating ultrasound is an early scan that will measure heartbeat and the gestational sac to determine how advanced pregnancy is. The heartbeat is the first sign of viability (meaning the pregnancy has not miscarried and is not ectopic).
How soon can I get an ultrasound?
We'll work with you to schedule your ultrasound at around six weeks, when we can get you the clearest, most complete picture of your pregnancy. If you're not sure how far along you are, we can help you figure that out at your first visit. The sooner you come in, the sooner you'll have the answers you need.
If I need confirmation of pregnancy to apply for prenatal care, can you provide it?
Yes, we can provide the report of pregnancy as soon as there is a positive pregnancy test OR after the dating ultrasound. This report is usually what Medicaid and CHIP require.
How accurate is your pregnancy test?
We use medical-grade pregnancy tests that provide fast, reliable results. If your test is positive, we'll walk you through next steps, including scheduling an ultrasound to confirm and date your pregnancy.
Parenting, Adoption & Options
I’m not sure I'm ready to be a parent. Can you help me figure out what to do?
That's exactly why we're here. You don't have to have it all figured out before you come in. We'll sit with you, listen without judgment, and help you understand all of your options — parenting, adoption, or anything else you're weighing. There's no pressure, and no rush.
What support is available if I choose to parent?
You won't be on your own. We provide practical support including diapers, clothing, toiletries, and baby essentials at no cost. We also offer parenting classes, one-on-one client advocacy, and guidance with Medicaid and community resources. And our support doesn't stop at delivery — we walk alongside you through your pregnancy, your baby's first year, and all the way until your child turns three.
What is adoption, and is it really an option for me?
Adoption is a courageous and loving choice that allows you to make a thoughtful plan for your baby's future. It's not one-size-fits-all — you can choose an open adoption, where you maintain contact with your child and the adoptive family, or a closed adoption, with no ongoing contact after the process is complete. We'll help you understand what each path looks like and connect you with trusted local adoption agencies to guide you through the process.
Will Freedom Women's Care help me with the adoption process?
We don't handle adoptions directly, but we are here to listen, answer your questions, and help you explore what adoption could look like for your situation. We can connect you with reputable adoption agencies in Texas, including New Life Adoptions, Christian Homes and Family Services, and TPCN Adoption Providers, who can walk you through every step.
What if I want to parent but I'm worried about money or housing?
We hear that concern often, and it's one of the reasons our support goes beyond information. We offer material assistance, help navigating Medicaid, and can connect you with community resources for housing and financial challenges. For qualifying clients, limited rental and vehicle assistance may also be available. You don't have to face the practical challenges alone.
How long will Freedom Women's Care support me if I choose to parent?
Our support continues long after your baby is born. From your first prenatal appointment through your child's third birthday, we're here with guidance, resources, and encouragement at every stage — pregnancy, baby's first year, and beyond. Parenting is a big decision, and a worthy one. We'll be right beside you.
Understanding Your Pregnancy
When does my baby's heart begin to beat?
Your baby's heart begins to form and beat as early as six weeks of gestation — just four weeks after conception. By eight weeks, it is beating with a regular rhythm. This is one of the reasons a dating ultrasound is so important early in your pregnancy. We can confirm the heartbeat and show you exactly where things stand.
When can my baby feel pain?
Research indicates that babies develop the ability to feel pain while in the womb. Newborn babies are able to feel pain from birth, and scientists believe this capacity develops before birth. This is important medical information to have as you consider your options and your baby's development.
What is happening with my baby in the first trimester?
More than you might expect. By six weeks, your baby's heart is beating and major organs — including the brain, lungs, liver, and stomach — have begun to form. By ten weeks, your baby is making spontaneous movements, and brain activity can be recorded. By twelve weeks, all body parts and organs are present and growing. Seeing this on an ultrasound can help you understand exactly what is happening inside your body.
What does gestational age mean, and why does it matter?
Gestational age measures how far along your pregnancy is, counted from the first day of your last normal menstrual period. Your due date is estimated at 40 weeks from that date. Knowing your exact gestational age is critical — it affects your health, your options, and the safety of any decision you make. A free dating ultrasound at our center will give you that information clearly and accurately.
Can I feel my baby moving?
Many women begin to feel their baby's movements around 18 weeks of gestation. By 20 weeks, your baby is moving about every minute, and breathing-like movements can be seen on ultrasound. Your baby can also hear and respond to sounds by this point. The earlier you come in for an ultrasound, the sooner you'll have a clear picture of your baby's development.
Early Pregnancy Questions
What if I'm not sure I'm pregnant?
The first step is a medical-grade pregnancy test, which we provide completely free. Our tests give fast, reliable results so you know exactly where you stand. If your test is positive, we'll walk you through next steps, including scheduling a dating ultrasound.
Can anyone force me to make a decision about my pregnancy?
No. No one can force you to have an abortion or make any other decision about your pregnancy — not your parents, not the father of your baby, and not anyone else. You have the right to make this decision freely, based on your own values, beliefs, and health. If you are feeling pressured by someone, please talk to us. We are here to listen and support you, without judgment.
What if I was a victim of rape or incest?
You are not alone, and you deserve support and honest information. There are public and private agencies that can help you, and we can connect you with those resources. Whatever you are facing, our doors are open to you — with compassion, confidentiality, and no pressure.
What should I know before making any decision about my pregnancy?
You deserve complete information before you make any decision. That starts with knowing how far along you are, confirming the pregnancy is healthy and not ectopic, and understanding all of your options — parenting, adoption, or abortion — along with any associated risks. At Freedom Women's Care, we provide free pregnancy tests, dating ultrasounds, and one-on-one time with a trained client advocate to make sure you have everything you need to make a fully informed decision.
What if I have no one to talk to about this?
That's exactly why we're here. Whether you have no family support, feel isolated, or simply don't know where to turn, you don't have to figure this out alone. Our trained client advocates will sit with you, listen, and answer your questions honestly — at your own pace, with zero pressure. You can also chat with a nurse 24/7 by calling 512-407-2900.
